Mardi Gras Snowfall

School was cancelled in Zachary on Friday due to a snowy weather prediction. There was no sleeping in with Tyler around, he was up right at sunrise trying to taste the snowflakes and have snowball fights before there was even a good dusting of snow on the ground.

Excited over the snow, he scraped every mailbox he saw to make mini snowballs.

Then he moved on to the swingsets in the backyard to collect more snow. The amount of snowfall had already increased just in the 30 minutes we were outside before the rest of the house was awake.

Snowfall Video:

After a breakfast of hot chocolate and king cake in front of the fireplace, Alli joined in the snowplay action.

Catching snowflakes on black construction paper to see if they all really do look different...

Alli's goal was to collect buckets of snow to make a snowman. We had about five buckets and bowls from the kitchen set out in the yard.

While she didn't want to join in the snowball fights, she did enjoy watching Mom and Tyler run around the yard. At one point we had about 2 inches of snow accumulated on the ground.

In between wet, cold snowball fights we returned to the house to continue our morning-long Mardi Gras party and parades which were cancelled for both kids when the schools closed on Friday.

Surprisingly, by 1pm there was not a bit of snow left on the ground anywhere. We continued with a wet, rainy day wth no sign of snowfall from the morning - that's Louisiana for you I guess - HIGHLY unpredictable!
